MEET DEBORAH SWIFT
Welcome to the online home of Deborah Swift, historical novelist. Before writing her first novel Deborah worked as a set and costume designer for theatre and TV. Later she took an MA in Creative Writing at Lancaster University, and since then has juggled writing with teaching.
Deborah is passionate about bringing the extraordinary people and events of the past to life, and her books have won the Millennium Readers Award, The Wishing Shelf Readers Award and The Coffee Pot Book Club Gold Medal.

Think of wartime Shanghai like three concentric rings. The International Settlement (mostly US and European), surrounded by the vast Chinese nation. And that in turn invaded by the Japanese.
This is why my characters lived in interesting times!
